#109 - PADDLE CREEK'S PACK YOUR GRIP
Handler: Chad Baker

...now, once again, we play the waiting game...

...folks are breaking down their canopies and seating areas and preparing for the announcement of the 2012 NARC Winner...the announcement to come...

86. FC-AFC HILLTOP’S HIGH SOCIETY, LF, Sylvia McClure

...had a no-bird her first time up...she came to the line at 6:09 p.m. She had a poinpoint mark on the left hand flyer. On the right hand, she had a very long bird...she swam long to the right, came out and nailed it. On the middle retired, her initial line was off to the right, this resulted in a hunt behind the treeline and then deep. She recovered and retrieved the bird.

The 10th series of the 2012 National Amateur concludes at 6:20 p.m.

26. LAKE PARK DIAMOND IN THE RUFF, LM, Charles Bearden

...came to the line at 5:58 p.m. He went for the left-hand flyer first, ran straight toward the guns, turned right and picked it up clean. Going for the right flyer, he came out in front of the gunners, made a quick turn and got the bird. The middle retired was very nice, he showed a good mark, had one loop over by the tree but never got behind it.

16. JAYBAR AMERICAN IDOL, LM, Barbara Younglove

...came to the line at 5:47 p.m. Going for the left hand flyer, he came in left of the gunners, went deep, before coming back out for the bird. For the right hand bird swam directly toward the bird popped out, and went directly to the bird. He had a handle on a middle retired.

7. AFC TEXACO’S HIGH TESSE, LF, Alex Abraham

...5:35...going for the left flyer, she made several deep loops and came back and got the flyer. On the right flyer, she circled up behind the guns but got it. On the difficult retired bird, she stepped on it...

116. FC-AFC SML STELLA'S GOT HER GROOVE, LF, David Didier

...going for the left flyer, she was out into the area of the fall very quickly, made two loops and had her bird. She had a great mark on the right flyer. Going for the long memory bird, she held her line all the way out past the creek. She stayed in the center of the field, hunted the center and left side and had the best mark of the day on this troublesome bird...so far.

113. NFC-AFC CANDLEWOOD'S SOMETHING ROYAL, LF, Ken Neil

...came to the line at 5:08 p.m. She went right to the area where the left-hand bird fell, missed it, put on a great big loop, but came right back in and found it. On the right hand flyer, she swam toward the gunners, passed in front of them then hunted long and deep. She only stayed there for a moment and quickly got her mark. On the middle retired bird, Windy had the best line of the day...but, when she got to the far shore she hunted right behind the trees before coming out to pick up the bird.

109. PADDLE CREEK'S PACK YOUR GRIP, LM, Chad Baker

...came to the line at 4:48 p.m. He received a very long, left flyer, but made very quick work of it by going directly to the area and only having one loop to hunt. He smacked the right flyer. The middle-retired gave him more problems when he reached the far creek. He hunted left and right, then on to the area of the fall. He went around behind the trees, came out and hunted up the bird.

103. FC-AFC LAND AHOY, LM, Gary Zellner

...came to the line at 4:43 p.m. On the left flyer he had one big loop, from left to right, then straight to the bird. On the right flyer, he was very clean and nice. He took a great initial line to the bird on the middle retired, straight through the third piece of water. Then, he veered right to the tree line, went behind the trees to the holding blind, hunted deep and back to the bird.

Thank you...

...to the state of Michigan, the Indian River, Onaway and surrounding areas for being so accommodating to our massive group. All of your amenities were taken advantage of and we appreciate your hospitality and acceptance.

Thank you!

...to our supporters Purina, Avery, Ainley Kennels and Dogs Afield. We appreciate all you have done to make this National Amateur a wonderful success.

100. FC-AFC-CFC-CAFC ADAMS ACRES MUDDY CREEK, LM, Jerry Younglove

...he came to the line at 4:27 p.m. He came in left the line for the left hand flyer. He had a short bird and with only a very small hunt was able to recover it. Going for the right-hand flyer he stepped on the bird. He handled on the middle-retired.

98. AFC CANDLEWOODS COMMANDER AND CHIEF, LM, Fred Kampo

...came to the line at 4:15 p.m. He had an excellent mark on the left-hand flyer. It took him a few loops in the area to find the right-hand flyer. The middle-retired gave him more problems; he went behind the trees and was out of sight for quite a while before hunting deep and finding his way back to the bird.

97. FC-AFC CASTLEBAY'S NIGHT ROBBER, LM, Dave Seivert

...came to the line at 4:03 p.m. Going for the left flyer, he went right to the area with a few loops, he had the bird. Next came the right flyer, where he did an excellent job. He handled on the middle retired.

94. AFC WRS BUGS BLACK MIST, LF, Wayne Stupka

...came to the line at 3:38 p.m. He had an excellent job of both left and right flyers, going directly to each one. He had to handle his way to the middle-retired bird and picked it up successfully.

88. SON OF A PREACHER MAN, LM, Duncan Christie

...came to the line at 3:35 p.m. On the left flyer, he hunted behind the guns and deep to the left. He worked his way back out to the bird. On the right flyer, he had a perfect mark. He had a handle on the middle-retired...13 minutes to complete the test.

86. FC-AFC HILLTOP’S HIGH SOCIETY, LF, Sylvia McClure

...no-bird...

39. FC-AFC RAGIN EYE OF THE STORM, LM, John Thomas

...came the the line for the 10th series at 3:15 p.m. His first bird was the left hand flyer. He had a big hunt close to the bird and farther out, before he was able to retrieve the bird. Next, he went for the right hand flyer with only a small loop he was successful in completing this mark. The final bird was the retired gun station, he drove across all of the water, to the tree line and turned right. He worked his way back around, found the holding blind then worked his way out to the bird. It took him 13 minutes...

28. FC-AFC BAYOU TECHE EYE ON THE BALL, LM, Lauren Hays

...came to the line as the first running dog in the 10th series at 3:02 p.m. Taking a perfect line to the left flyer station he picked up the bird in excellent fashion. Next he went for the right flyer, after two loops he found the bird quickly and came back to the line. The third and final bird, was the retired middle gun station. He swam to the area, made a couple of loops and came up with the bird...it took him 13 minutes to run the test.

10th Series - Water Triple with 1 Retired and 2 Flyers

The test site is on the property of Randy and Carol Whittaker. The mat is high on a hill facing east, overlooking a big bottom filled with creeks and technical ponds. AS you look from the mat, there is a flyer station shooting a rooster pheasant from the line on the left at 225 yards. The line is down the hill, across a technical pond, out across the flat-bottom land, past the gunners and onto the bird.

The next gun station is retired and is in front of the line shooting a hen pheasant at 346 yards. The line to this bird is down the hill, across a channel of water, behind a flyer station out onto a flat, then across a second and third piece of water. This gun station retires behind a tree line on the right.

Then third bird is a duck flyer in front of the line at 176 yards, from left to right. The dog must go down a hill, onto a flat, swim a channel and then out to the bird.

The order is, middle-retired throwing angled back, right to left; right-flyer shooting left to right; left flyer is thrown left to right, angled back.

Test dog 1, FC Ranger's Black Bart, Marsha McGee, ran the test in 17 minutes.

Test dog 2, MS Micro Doodle Dandy, Tom Bogusky, ran the test in 15 minutes.

The waiting, is the hardest part...
